Richard has cast independent film, television, music videos, theater, commercial, voice over, print, live events and pretty much anything else you can think of that requires talent. Richard Jordan Casting specializes in solid up-and-coming actors, comedy, diversity and real people. Having worked professionally for years as an actor, writer, director, producer and at an ad agency he's able to approach each unique project from multiple perspectives. Remaining calm under pressure, keeping a positive vibe in the audition studio and going outside regular channels to find the right people are just a few of the things that set us apart.
We cast both SAG-AFTRA and non-union actors and are happy to advise which direction you should go if you are unclear. Based in New York, we love to travel and have cast projects in Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Dallas, and Miami.
The full story (abridged)
Richard got into the business of his own accord at the age of 9 as an actor in the Dallas/Ft Worth area where he studied acting at various schools and under local casting legend Richard Perrin. He started doing professional gigs by the age of 12, spent his senior year as an exchange student in France and shortly thereafter moved to New York City to attend the American Musical & Dramatic Academy. He left the lights of Broadway for nearly two years to serve as the director of entertainment for Club Med in Mexico. After Mexico he settled in Bushwick, Brooklyn in early 2005, where he remains to this day.
That's when Richard started focusing more on film and television as an actor, building credits and relationships. He got agents, his SAG card, appeared in numerous commercials, indie films, and TV shows. In 2006, before the days of youtube stars, he got a job as a host & producer for one of the first internet only daily news and entertainment shows, Vidocity, which was started by the creators of Inside Edition and Current Affair. There he got his first taste of creatively crafting a story from the other side and sharpened his senses as to what people like and what they don't. He quickly developed a reputation as being an excellent curator of people and places, so naturally, his director friends started hitting him up to help them find hard-to-cast roles, and naturally, he succeeded to the point that they asked him to take over casting on future projects. He had never thought of being a casting director before. He was not trained on how to cast by professional casting directors. Or was he...? After all, he had been on thousands of auditions as an actor and seen the best of the best, the worst of the worst, and everything in between. He knew what he liked in a casting director and what he didn't so he decided to go for it and be the change he wanted to see. Once he got a few gigs under his belt (and realized how much actual work was required) it was time to start charging for his professional services, and thus, RICHARD JORDAN CASTING was born. He has since worked with other respectable casting directors as a casting associate learning some tricks of the trade and sharing a few of his own.
..but don't worry, he didn't give up the acting thing, he still does gigs from time-to-time when the project is right. He recently played record executive BARRY in Scorsese's VINYL for HBO. He also enjoys helping actors and other industry get ahead by teaching workshops ,speaking engagements (see panels/lectures page) and is a consulting recruiter of directors for MOFILM North America.
